About Our Organization

What is the Society for Thermal Medicine (STM)?

The Society for Thermal Medicine, 501(c)(3), founded in 1986, is a premier, international scientific forum for fostering interaction and innovation in the applications of thermal therapy for cancer and other diseases. A key goal of the Society is to facilitate rapid dissemination of exciting scientific breakthroughs in order to expedite the translation of both basic and applied research to the clinic for the immediate benefit of patients.

Who runs STM?

The Society for Thermal Medicine is run by a board of officers and councilors elected annually by the general membership. Governing Council positions – officers and councilors – are non-paid volunteer positions. Elected officers serve multi-year-year terms, and councilors are elected to serve for two years on the Governing Council. Allen Press, Inc. manages the day-to-day operations of the society through a contract to provide association management services.

Why am I asked to register and login?

Everyone using this website needs to register online to create a User Account. Once registered, a Username and Password is generated. Registration is a one-time requirement. Future visits to the website will only require visitors to login using their Username and Password. After login, visitors are allowed to conduct online transactions such as registering for the annual meeting, making donations, and applying for membership in the society.

Why do I need to provide an area of discipline in my Membership Profile?

STM Bylaws require representation by all three disciplines on committees and some awards and Governing Council positions are rotated annually between the three disciplines. Members are asked to choose one of the three disciplines: Biology/Chemistry, Clinical/Medical, or Engineering/Physics. This information is also displayed in the Membership Directory files, making it easier to locate colleagues with specific interests.

Who sees my personal information?

To protect your privacy, STM will not sell or rent Member data. It is available in the Membership Directory located in the Member Center which is restricted to Members-Only. Your colleagues who are STM members in good standing will be able to search the STM Member Directory. STM will include data from partner organizations in mailings and e-mail messages to members and these partner organizations will reciprocate by including STM information to their members – but email addresses and phone numbers are not exchanged. Only announcement information is exchanged.
